Over the coming year, apprentices across the UK will be showcasing their automotive repair skills for the SkillAuto competition. Organised by the IMI, the contest is open to bodyshop operatives with less than three years’ experience and is an excellent opportunity for participants to demonstrate their technical abilities.
The first round was held over the last few weeks and Farécla were at a heat in Northern Ireland for the Paint Repair skill set. Stephen Bell, Area Technical Sales Manager for the region, joined participants at North West Regional College where they were being tested and judged.
Providing G3 Premium System compounds and pads, Stephen demonstrated modern paint finishing materials and techniques before participants were then themselves tested using the products. Reflecting on his involvement, Stephen said: “It’s great to get in on these initiatives. We are always looking support young people in the industry and help them start off on the right foot by passing on our experience with modern compounding.”
Martin Hutchinson from the IMI comments on Farécla’s contribution: “We are delighted that Farecla are able to support this competition and show the science behind a professional paint finish.”
Congratulations to Jonathon Kelly who won first place at the Northern Ireland Regional Heats. He will now be going onto the regional finals later this week, where Farécla will once again be joining them to support the competition. Top performers will then progress onto the UK heats before the national finals commence at London’s NEC in November.
